The Crooked Cop Report collects published reporting and public records about law enforcement misconduct in the United States, and puts it in one place. Firings, criminal charges, open investigations, and the growing surveillance beat around licence plate reader networks.

We do not do original reporting

Every story here was reported by a working newsroom or filed by a state investigative agency. We summarise it plainly, in our own words, and link straight back to the original. Nothing is republished in full. If a claim cannot be traced to a named source, it does not go on the site. The photograph on each story is the share image published by the outlet that reported it, credited beside it.

A charge is not a conviction

Most people named on this site have been charged, not convicted. Every entry states plainly where the case stands: charged, fired, or under investigation. Everyone referenced is presumed innocent unless and until a court says otherwise, and we write that on the page rather than leaving it to the reader to remember.

Corrections come first

If something here is wrong, out of date, or a case has resolved, tell us and it gets fixed or removed. Where someone is cleared, the entry comes down. Accuracy is the only thing a site like this has, and a record that will not correct itself is worth nothing. Write to corrections@crookedcopreport.com.

Not anti-police

Several entries exist because a sheriff referred his own deputy to state investigators, or because a department audited its own logs and fired the people it found. Those are here for the same reason the failures are. The question this site asks is not whether police can be trusted, but whether the mechanisms meant to catch misconduct actually catch it. Often the answer is that a reporter or a victim got there first.

The Crooked Cop Report is independently run and is not affiliated with any law enforcement agency, newsroom, advocacy organisation, or government body.
